A Showcase Success

Following the success of our first year with Showcase in 2023, we took to The Lowry’s Lyric stage once again to showcase the talent of our society.

Showcase is an annual fundraiser whereby 7 local amateur theatre societies in and around Greater Manchester come together to raise vital funds for The Christie. This year’s show marks the 30th Showcase performance.

Joining us on the set to perform on the massive stage at The Lowry Theatre, Salford was Romiley Operatic Society, Sale and Altrincham Musical Theatre, South Manchester AOS, Horwich Amateur Theatre Society, All Saints Musical Productions and Mossley AODS Next Generation Youth Theatre. With a range of performances from classic musicals to modern mash ups, there’s something for all audiences to enjoy.

Each society is provided with a 15 minute set, and this year, Hyde Musical Society chose to entertain audiences with Disney Classics. Disney celebrated it’s 100 anniversary in 2023, so we couldn’t miss the opportunity to pay homage to some of the team’s favourite musicals.

From classics to modern hits, heroes to villains, bangers to ballads, we presented an array of Disney songs that audiences know and love. Including hits from Hercules, Alladin the Musical, Moana, Little Mermaid and The Lion King. The songs were carefully selected to showcase the full spectrum of talents within our cast. Each cast member chose their favourite Disney character and based their outfits around them, bringing a splash of colour and magic for which Disney is so well known.

We were blown away by the audience’s response to our segment on the night. Our energetic performance of ‘Friend Like Me‘ from Alladin The Musical ended to a roaring applause from the audience, and once again the cast brought the house down on their final triumphant number ‘Go The Distance‘ from Hercules.

We are so thankful to be part of Showcase and do our part to raise vital funds for such an important charity such as The Christie. We’re looking forward to next year, we can’t wait to get up on that stage once more!
